Tiles
Floor tile is made to be thick and sturdy so it can withstand foot traffic. Meanwhile, wall tile is thinner and lighter for easier installation. Some floor tiles can be installed on walls, depending on the size and weight, though you should consult a professional before choosing to install floor tile on your walls.
They can also be more decorative, with unique finishes and 3D textures that wouldn’t be practical for flooring. Wall tiles are also more likely to be smaller than floor tiles, since mosaics and backsplash wall tiles are so popular.
Many floor tiles can be installed on the walls, but you should consult with a contractor and the manufacturer’s instructionsbefore determining if a particular floor tile is suitable for wall installation. Consider size, weight, and installation location for the tile when installing floor tile on a wall.
Glazed tile is water-resistant when installed properly, but not all glazed tiles are suitable for use in high-moisture areas like bathtubs, showers, and around pools. You will need to check eith one of our Neche consultants to find tile that is approved for those locations.
A rectified tile is a tile that, in its production, has been finished so that all sides are exactly the same size, making the tile uniformed with precision. This allows for a minimum grout joint to make the floor appear as one large tiled area. In doing this, the tiles require less grout.
A non-rectified tile has uneven edges. This makes for a more natural looking tile, but require a wider grout joint, giving a more traditional tiled look.
Choosing a rectified or non-rectified tile is down to preference and the type of space you are tiling. Rectified can look more modern with their seamless finish whereas non-rectified gives you more opportunity to use decorative grouts. Whichever you choose, we’re sure you will love your finished, tiled space.
External tiles have anti-slip properties suitable for uncovered and covered outdoor use. Think pool surrounds, patios, balconies, outdoor dining areas, alfresco areas, and more!
External tiles most often have an R11 slip rating and a rock-face texture.
Porcelain Tiles come in varies sizes and finishes. Finishes such as polished, matt, semi-gloss/lappato and anti-slip. Lappato is an Italian word for semi polished or honed. This finish is a fairly new technology which is done best by European manufacturers, mainly the Italians. At Neche, we have a huge range of Porcelain Tiles in a lappato finish.
Matt finish tiles are a popular interior flooring option for bathrooms, laundries, kitchens, living areas, entryways and hallways. They're equally suitable for wall applications.
Matt tiles have better traction than gloss tiles, and porcelain matt tiles may have anti-slip properties such as an R9 or R10 slip rating.
Honed is a term associated with the finish of natural stone tiles, a honed finish is even, smooth in texture, and generally matte, as opposed to a polished finish which is a shiny and glossy.
